ACAT Luxembourg is an association whose mission is to stand against torture and for human rights

Presentation of our organisation

ACAT-Luxembourg bases its work on Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”

Its mission is twofold: first, to raise public awareness—particularly within the Christian community—of the scandal of torture and capital punishment; and second, to encourage the public to actively work to end these atrocities, regardless of the political regime or country where they occur.

In its work, ACAT Luxembourg intervenes on behalf of individuals who are victims of torture or sentenced to death, based on information from the ACAT network. This intervention is carried out without discrimination based on ideology, religion, ethnicity, or any other characteristics of the individuals concerned. ACAT also intervenes in cases of arbitrary arrests and unfair trials. She fights for human rights defenders who are persecuted, and for refugees who are likely to be returned to a country or region where they risk torture or the death penalty.

Our next event

Our next event will be The Nuit des Veilleurs on 26th of June, the international day against torture. We will reflect on the persecution of environmental rights defenders and screen a movie L'illusion de l'abondance, accompannied by an activist speaker from Philippines.
