Our educational museum is not just a tourist attraction, but also a place of remembrance, with presentations of books produced by members of the G.R.E.G. to raise the profile of Luxembourg's history for our tourists and to show how the people of Luxembourg lived through the occupation and reconstruction.
The museum, named after US Army General Patton, invites visitors to discover life in Ettelbruck during the frightening years of WWII.
Exhibit honours General Georg S. Patton jr, commander of the 3rd US-Army, and Colonel Lansing McVickar’s whose troops liberated Ettelbruck on December 25th 1944, as well as the “Remembrance Day“ festivities held in Ettelbruck for over 50 years in commemoration of the liberation from the Nazis.
Various rooms exhibit military items and aircraft remains.
The museum treasures education through pictures, artefacts, documents and other items covering the time of Nazi occupation This includes Nazi propaganda, stories about everyday life in Ettelbruck and its surroundings, collaboration, deportation, and the oppression of the Jewish community. The museum also highlights the resistance movements and a few known individuals like Yvon Kerger, a driving force in uniting resistance groups around Ettelbruck and Frankie Hansen, a deportee, later „Silver Star“ honored participant in US Army operations.
20-21-22 september 2024 commemorative weekend celebrating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of our town by the allied forces
On 20 September 2024, a new memorial will be inaugurated in honour of the conscripts ‘Ons Jongen a Meedercher vun Ettelbréck’.
Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September 2024.
The town of Ettelbruck, nicknamed ‘Patton Town’ by our American liberators, intends to mark this commemoration with festivities including ceremonies, historical scenes and a military parade with the participation of detachments from the American, Luxembourg, Belgian, French and German armies.
