Founded in 1991, Unity Foundation is a Luxembourg NGO officially recognised by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MAEE). Unity Foundation exists because of its commitment to promoting the well-being of people from all walks of life, whatever their beliefs or cultures.

Presentation of our organisation

Founded in 1991, Unity Foundation is a Luxembourg-based NGO that promotes community empowerment through education.

Unity Foundation works with a network of local partners in Latin America, Africa and Asia and supports their efforts to build the capacity of their communities to take charge of their own development through three lines of action:

- Community schools offer pre-school, primary and, when more developed, secondary education to children. Often, schools are set up in isolated areas where there are few or no schools. The work of our local partners begins by raising awareness in the community of the importance of education. The decision to create a school is the result of a community decision, which greatly contributes to its sustainability. Designated individuals then follow a teacher training programme and are supported by other members of their community to establish and maintain the community school.

- The Social Action Preparation programme aims to build the capacity of young people and adults in the areas of language, mathematics, science and community life processes, so that they can improve their own lives and promote the well-being of their communities. As the participants progress through their study, they analyse the conditions in which they live, identify the needs of their communities and find ways of responding to them by applying the knowledge they have acquired. They then launch initiatives of increasing complexity in diverse areas such as sustainable agricultural production, environmental conservation, pre-school education and health.

- The training centres, based in Malawi and the Central African Republic, bring together organisations promoting the establishment of community schools in around ten African countries, in order to identify, analyse and disseminate the learning generated in the development of community schools.

Since 2016, Unity Foundation has also been carrying out development education activities in Luxembourg aimed at raising awareness among young people and adults aged 11 and over of the principles at the heart of sustainable development and their potential to become protagonists of social change.

On the one hand, we intervene in various socio-educational organisations such as schools, socio-professional guidance centres, NGOs and neighbourhood associations. We run workshops to get participants thinking about the values and principles at the heart of development, and we explore ways of applying them to our individual and collective lives. We also train teachers and educators who are interested in continuing these workshops independently.

We also organise a range of public awareness-raising events aimed at sharing our experiences and ideas with people of all ages and backgrounds.

All the projects supported by the Unity Foundation are co-financed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

Our next event

UNITY RUN 42 - Saturday 11 May 2024 - 19h00
For the second year running, we are delighted to announce our participation in the ING Night Marathon, as part of the UNITY RUN 42 - a discipline specially designed for secondary schools in partnership with the organiser of the Grand Duchy's biggest sporting event. The concept of this school relay race is simple: 42 students from each participating school will each undertake to run at least 1 km. This initiative, which is part of our mission to build the capacity of young people, has a number of benefits:

A return to physical exercise, identification with the values of their school and the strengthening of team spirit, all combined with a commitment to solidarity for a good cause!

In fact, the sponsorship donations from each runner will go entirely to our education programmes in Malawi, and the ING Night Marathon organiser is offering his services free of charge.
