The aim of the ‘Civil Courage Online’ project is to create a more respectful internet and a population that demonstrates civil courage by taking action when people’s dignity is attacked or violated online. The project aims to counteract social polarisation and radicalisation and to support those affected.
Through the “Civil Courage Online” project, we aim to connect people who would like to work on a voluntary basis towards a more respectful internet. Online hate affects individuals as well as society as a whole. To counteract polarisation and radicalisation and not leave those affected alone, we offer training to interested and motivated individuals on what they can do to combat online hate. The focus is on raising awareness of the various reporting channels available in Luxembourg and on the practice of ‘counter-speech’. In group workshops, we learn about and practise various ways of responding to online comments. The aim is to equip motivated and interested individuals with the knowledge they need to act with civic courage online – whether individually or as part of collective actions. In addition, we offer personalised support for the duration of the project.
Respect.lu is Luxembourg’s centre against radicalisation and has three missions: to provide information and raise awareness about radicalisation; to support the social environment of radicalised individuals (family, friends, school, work, etc.); and to assist radicalised individuals in their deradicalisation process.
