The Agence du Bénévolat has launched its national campaign “Give this chair your voice!”, designed to raise awareness and encourage citizens to get actively involved in the boards of associations across Luxembourg.
Using the image of a chair as a strong and universal metaphor, the campaign highlights the idea that everyone has a place and a voice to bring to the table. An empty chair is not just a vacant seat, it represents an opportunity to take part, to contribute, and to strengthen community life.
A civic and collective responsibility
Associations form the backbone of Luxembourg’s social, cultural and sporting landscape. Yet many face increasing challenges in renewing their board members.
These governing bodies are crucial: they set directions, ensure continuity and safeguard the long-term sustainability of voluntary action in our communes.
The campaign makes it clear that every citizen can make a valuable contribution to shaping their association, regardless of age, profession, or experience. It shows that voluntary responsibility is also a form of active citizenship.
Real stories, real commitment
To ensure authenticity and impact, the campaign features true stories from volunteers who currently serve on the boards of Luxembourgish associations. Five volunteers share their experiences, motivations and insights into their involvement. Their profiles reflect the diversity and richness of volunteering in Luxembourg, across generations, professions and cultures.
“Serving on a board means learning to decide together, to share responsibility and to help a collective project grow. It is a tangible way to live active citizenship and give purpose to your engagement,” says Marc Thill, President of the Agence du Bénévolat.
Multilingual and inclusive
The campaign is deployed nationwide with a multichannel, multilingual and inclusive communication strategy.
It combines press coverage, online communication and out-of-home (OOH) advertising in shopping centres and public spaces across Luxembourg, ensuring high visibility and accessibility for all audiences.
On the eve of the International Volunteer Day, the Agence du Bénévolat celebrates the grand finale of the campaign together with many dedicated volunteers.
Institutional support
The campaign “Give this chair your voice!” is carried out with the support of the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees.
It is part of a broader national effort to encourage civic participation and to highlight the importance of associative governance and volunteering in Luxembourg’s society.
