Relational volunteering
Making a difference through the power of human connection
Making a difference through the power of human connection
In response to the growing loneliness experienced by many older adults, the Agence du Bénévolat develops social innovation projects, including initiatives focused on relational volunteering.
This form of volunteering, which is open to everyone, aims to create lasting human connections and help combat the social isolation of older people.
Relational volunteering is based on simple everyday gestures: regular visits, walks, conversations over a coffee, listening, reading, or playing board games.
Its objective is to encourage social interaction by fostering the development of genuine human relationships. In this way, it helps improve the quality of life of older people, whether they live at home, in residential care facilities, or in hospital.
Often, the greatest gift we can offer is our time, our attention, and a listening ear. In relational volunteering, presence, kindness, and respect are at the heart of the commitment.
Trained volunteers enrich the daily lives of older adults and people with disabilities. Through conversations, walks, games, reading aloud, and other shared activities, they foster a sense of joy and help reduce loneliness and social isolation.
This is how meaningful connections are created, rooted in mutual respect and valuable moments of sharing. Relational volunteering complements professional services and helps strengthen quality of life and social participation.
