About 40 volunteers that we train have been visiting detainees and former detainees in order to improve their reintegration conditions, and this for 15 years. We seek to cover all languages but unfortunately, we currently lack people speaking Arabic, Portuguese, Romanian, Chinese....
Deontology of the prison visitor ALVP
Volunteer visitors of the Luxembourg Association of Prison Visitors, we share a common vision of the human person:
- the human being is built through exchange, fraternity, solidarity;
- no one is reducible to an act;
- each one is likely to evolve.
Through individual and regular meetings, we try to actively listen to the detained person without judging them or trying to find out the reason for their incarceration. Thus, we want to offer him the possibility of rebuilding himself and taking charge of his future, with a view to his reintegration into society.
We want to establish a relationship with the incarcerated person based on mutual respect (origin, convictions, etc.). Our exchange is based on the principle of equality, it is marked by loyalty over time, it is intended to be imbued with empathy. However, we take care to keep a distance in the relationship and we guarantee the confidentiality of the interviews. We refrain from any act of proselytism or moralization. We want to prevent the listening relationship from falling into a relationship of material assistance.
We undertake to respect the internal rules of the prison, to work in collaboration with the competent social services (SPSE, SCAS, etc.) and to cooperate in complete independence with the judicial authorities of the Grand Duchy.
We are also committed to actively participating in meetings and training organized by ALVP to:
- share our experiences,
- help each other to face difficult situations and
- acquire the tools necessary for our commitment to detainees.
