As a volunteer in Family Ties Restoration activities, you will work at the initial reception centre for applicants for international protection to help maintain family ties. You will assist the most vulnerable in finding and contacting their families.
The Restoring Family Links (RFL) service provides support to prevent, restore and maintain family unity for those who have lost contact with their families as a result of a humanitarian crisis, conflict, natural disaster or during migration.
RFL volunteers work alongside individuals to support them in this process.
How can you help?
As a CRL volunteer in RLF activities, you will work in the initial reception centre for applicants for international protection to:
- Help maintain family ties by providing a telephone for 5-minute calls to families;
- Help maintain family ties by supporting people in their search for loved ones via social networks;
- Raise awareness and inform people about RLF activities;
- Identify any possible loss of family ties and refer them to the service staff;
You are also:
- The first point of contact between the beneficiary and the RLF service;
- Attentive to migrants;
- Vigilant with regard to the confidentiality of the information collected.
Are you suited to this role?
- You are a good listener;
- You are available for at least 4 hours per week;
- You are fluent in English and French. Any other languages would be an asset;
- You have a good knowledge of social media;
- You are comfortable using IT tools and telephone equipment;
- You have an interest in migration issues and interculturality;
- You share the Principles and Values of the Red Cross.
Training for this purpose is provided.
