Presentation of the opportunity for volunteering

Every year, the Fondation Autisme Luxembourg organises holidays for children, teenagers and adults with autism.

As you know, carers play a very important role during our holidays and, through their commitment, help people with autism to enjoy relaxing and enjoyable holidays. Holiday breaks also provide an essential respite for parents.

During the weeks of holiday, there are generally 6 to 7 people with an autism spectrum disorder, 6 to 7 accompanying adults like you and 2 FAL educators. The supervision ratio is 1:1. An accompanist looks after a person with autism from the time they get up until they go to bed. The aim is to ensure that the person with autism has a great holiday, by respecting their pace, interests and wishes, encouraging them to be independent, looking after their well-being and providing quality supervision during meals, free activities or structured activities and help with domestic activities, etc., while bearing in mind that people with autism are all different. Some are more emotionally vulnerable than others and have more difficulty controlling their emotions. For others, changes and unexpected events can be a source of anxiety and stress that can lead to behavioural problems. Our educational staff know how to deal with these delicate situations and have the techniques to help them.

You don't need any experience; empathy and respect for people with special needs are your greatest assets. You'll be well looked after and at an information session shortly before the holiday, we'll explain the characteristics of autism and the personality of the person you'll be looking after, and you'll get to know the team and the other carers who'll be taking part in the holiday. The holiday usually starts in Munshausen or Rambrouch.

This is a unique opportunity for you to get to know the extraordinary world of autism, make new contacts, work with the TEACCH educational programme and gain experience in working with people with special needs, not to mention having fun, enjoying yourself and relaxing!
You will still receive an allowance of €25 per day, and if you have taken part in the basic autism training course, the allowance rises to €35 per day. You'll just need to set aside a little pocket money for your personal expenses, e.g. souvenirs.

If you would like to take part as an accompanying person, please register first!
